Judo Club was formed in 1981 by Raymond Voisey, Mike Andrews and Mike
Farley at Homers Lane Kingsteignton. The club started with approximately 30 members which quickly grew to around 70. The club remained at Homers Lane for 6 years before it was decided that due to the popularity of the club new purpose built premises would be needed. In 1986 the club relocated to its present location at Watts Blake Bearne Sports and Social Club Kingsteignton. We have now been here for 14 years and are stronger than ever before. With the national figures showing that there is a decline in members WBB has defied the statistics and continued to grow. The Club is run by a team of nine coaches, six of which are dan grades, and several volunteers. The Club Chairman Mike Andrews said "I believe that we owe are success to a number of factors, firstly the dedication and devotion to the club our team of coaches and volunteers have. The club is run solely as a non profit organisation which ensures real value for money. Thirdly and perhaps the most important factor is the unique family atmosphere the club has, parents enjoy watching their children and are able to socialise with other parents in the viewing gallery". |
